The pack walk is a primal activity that takes place in a dog
pack. The dogs will get up, stretch, and go off on a journey, led of
course by the "pack leader". The group will walk for miles in search
of food, water, and other dogs. Leading your dog on a pack walk
helps to establish you as that leader. Remember, the pack leader
always get to go first!

Because Linn's center is in the middle of an industrial
section of the city, most of the dogs are on lead when the
walk begins. The walk didn't start until all the dogs became
calm and submissive. It only took a couple of minutes for
this to happen, because the dogs understood that they were
not going anywhere until they calmed down. Calm submissive
energy, where have I heard that before? |
| Think how many times you have seen someone
walking down the street with their dog? How about walking
with more than one dog, more than two, or three? How about
fifteen dogs navigating through traffic??? |

 |
|
You could feel the energy of the pack as we
moved down the street, and the energy that emanated from Linn as he
guided the pack through the streets of Los Angeles. The pack
soon moved off the street and onto the sides of the LA rail line
tracks.
|
| As Linn explains "Dogs learn
through physical and psychological pressure". As I
watched the dogs navigate the large stones along the tracks,
some dogs took it in stride, while others concentrated on
every foot step. The psychological challenge of the walk
became very clear. |

Walking between the rails further intensified the
psychological challenge for the dogs. "Dogs burn energy
by both physical exercise and psychological challenges",
said Linn. That is why Cesar is constantly reminding his
viewers that exercise alone is not enough, and dogs "need a
job" to be mentally fulfilled . |
| When the pack returned to the center all the
dogs again remained calm as the "event" ended. The group
went into a fenced area known as the meditation area. No play or
excitement is allowed in that area. Fifteen dogs calmly and
patiently shared four large bowls of water, and then spread
out for some well deserved rest.
