| If you are considering
getting a dog for the first time, please remember a dog is a ten to
fifteen year commitment. Although many people have their minds set on a
particular breed and will shop for a dog with breeders and pet stores,
we encourage you to visit your local dog shelter or humane society
first. The dogs available for adoption have been screened for medical
problems, given some of their shots, been spayed or neutered, and
tested for temperament. The Dane County Hume Society also implants an
identification micro chip and gives you 30 days of pet insurance,
both free when you adopt a dog from their shelter. Considering the
individual cost of these procedures, and
that they are already done for you,
the cost to adopt a dog is much less, and shelter dogs generally
make great pets. You will also be saving an unwanted dog from
euthanasia. |

We offer a discount on obedience
training for owners of adopted dogs
from the D.C.H.S. Please mention you adopted a shelter dog when calling.
