A NEW DOG JOINS THE PACK

The dog packs at both Cesar's and Linn's facilities are made up of dogs belonging to Cesar and Linn, as well as client's dogs that are there for rehabilitation in one form or another. While I attended my training, Linn had about thirty five dogs at his center. He worked with the dogs in smaller groups depending on the individual issues being addressed.

Left: Linn introduces a new (client) dog to the pack. The dog on lead had problems with dog-on-dog aggression. The new dog is made to focus on the pack leader (Linn) by applying gentle pressure on his head collar.
One by one each dog in the pack politely waited their turn to smell the new dog.

Linn carefully monitored the pack and the new dog's energy level. Notice Linn is no longer applying pressure with the lead, and the dog continues to ignore the black dog while he focuses on pack leader.

The white Shepherd took a strong interest in the new arrival, but never once got out of line. Here Linn corrects the new dog with a quick Shush...

After the pack all had a turn investigating the new comer, the new dog followed Linn around willingly, notice he is dragging the kennel lead.

Some of the pack remained interested in the new dog and continued to follow Linn, and the others had laid down for a rest. The elapsed time from entering with the new dog to this point was about 30 minutes.

The new dog shown here is  certainly not cured of his aggression issues in just this one 30 minute session. This process will continue daily in short sessions for several weeks or more. This is just a small example of how I witnessed a balanced pack of dogs having a positive effect on an unstable dog. The dogs at Linn's center are there for a variety of reasons, and his consultations vary widely from aggressive to fearful dogs, issues with obsessions, dogs that are never walked, separation anxiety and many of the other issues that are covered in Cesar's TV show.
